About World Issues Today

What this is

World Issues Today collects the issues people in Korea, the United States, Japan, China and Europe are talking about on social media, sorts them into tech & economy, politics, culture & society and incidents, and explains each in English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. It also explains the day's top 10 GitHub Trending repositories.

How issues are picked

Every day at 6:00 AM Korea time, an AI (Claude, made by Anthropic) searches public news reports and trend media, picks issues from the last 24 hours and writes the summaries and explanations. Every issue links to the news report it is based on.

How scores work

Buzz, impact, timeliness and staying power are each rated out of 10 and averaged. Issues under 5.0 are left out. Scores are editorial judgments based on the cited reports, not counts of posts or views.

Limits

Social media platforms do not let us read posts directly, so the site relies on news coverage. Summaries can contain mistakes. Check the linked source before relying on an item.
